The Aloe digital tool allows an individual to self assess their own mental wellbeing in any setting. We would appreciate a few minutes of your time to complete our survey and watch our short video below.
The video below gives you an insight into our tool and how it may be of benefit to you.
The Problem
1 in 5 women, 1 in 10 partners and LGBTQ+ parents can experience mental health issues during pregnancy and one year after birth. Anxiety, depression and adjustment disorders are the most common. Suicide is one of the leading causes of maternal deaths. Mental health issues can have negative consequences on the mother, the baby, the wider family as well as costs to the NHS and the economy. Therefore, early identification of problems and access to mental health support is paramount.
Currently individuals are screened using questionnaires alongside healthcare professionals’ clinical judgement. However, detection can be limited by interconnecting
factors of personal, systemic and societal barriers. This is leading to 50% of women with perinatal depression being under detected.
Only individuals who meet certain criteria are referred for specialist support. Individuals with mild-moderate common perinatal mental
health problems are given limited education of how to look after and maintain their mental wellbeing, and face uncertainties around how to access the right support at the right time.
By digitising the clinical assessment, we are providing autonomy, convenience and easy access to specialist support/resources for all individuals in the perinatal period. All individuals will be able to periodically assess and monitor their own mental health.
This platform is inclusive and reduces personal and systemic biases which currently act as barriers to accessing support. By educating people regarding common perinatal mental health problems this will normalise these conditions, thus reducing stigmas which currently exist.
